About TEACCH

TEACCH stands for Treatment and Education of Autistic and Communication-Handicapped Children. It is a structured teaching approach focused on students with autism. Tasks focus around 4 essential questions: What work needs to be complete?, How much work needs to be complete?, What do I do with the work when it is finished?, and What comes next?

Organization of materials allows students to focus on successful task completion - rather than becoming lost in the details. Visual cues for direction and sequence support independence - building self esteem and freeing teacher hands. The amount of visual structure and organization is always guided by the student's need in a particular setting. Below are some example TEACCH tasks and how they are structured.
